Fond memories of last season (picture heavy)

Cabin fever has peaked for the year as it has just been too cold to enjoy time on the water. The temp. is in the teens as I write this, so I was looking through some pics from last season and thought I would share some.

Memorial Day was the last day of my first fly fishing vacation of the year. The day started on PA’s biggest free stone trout stream with these guys. I thought this was an interesting pattern of shucks, so I took a picture of them. I should have put a coin in the middle to help show the size, but they were all of a size 8 dry fly hook out of their shucks.

That day ended with these guys (Green Drakes), first we saw last year. The fish weren’t really turned on to them yet, but it was still fun to stand in the stream feeling like we were in the middle of a blizzard.

I took a kid I know flyfishing on a (in his words) “real trout stream” for the first time in July. We were greeted by 2 of these guys. This one was every bit of 2 feet long.

This fella (I think a fella, but I didn’t flip him over to check for sure. Sorry.) greeted us as we were walking back to the jeep along one of our more famous wild trout streams in September. It was the 7th and last one I ran across last season along a stream in Potter County. He was a bit sluggish in the cooler air, so I felt a little more comfortable getting a close up. I just couldn’t get him to smile.

To be continued due to amount of pictures I am allowed to post.

These next 4 pictures were from an afternoon on a small brookie stream I will not name. We parked and hiked up the stream fishing the whole way. The fishing was good, as usual. The jeep was covered with these and small stones.

As the snow flies and the water freezes even harder, I can only hope to see the “friends” I made on the stream last season again this year.

wow great pictures!!!

Looks like a great season. Im looking forward to pictures from this comming season!

Great pics.

Love the spinners.

And that snake, at a respectable distance, is pretty cool, too.

Dude,
Awesome pictures! Absolutely awesome. Great shots of the mayflies. I have one question though.

What in the heck is that swimming…thing with legs in the first set of pics?

OK, I have one more question. What camera (and if applicable, what lense) were those those shot with? They are really nice photos.

Thats a hellbender. The coolest things since sliced bread!

Cool pictures dude! Potter County in the middle of God’s Country and the mountains they call “Endless”.

Thanks for the kind words.

The thing swimming is a hellbender, as someone else said. It’s just a really big salamander. The cool thing about them is that their presence is a great indicator of a healthy aquatic habitat (read high water quality).

The Camera. Pentax Optio A10 No lense to describe. It has wonderful macro and supermacro settings that let me take nice pictures of bugs, when both they and I can hold steady long enough for a good shot.

Wow. Pretty impressive shots with a point n shoot. Is it waterproof?

I didn’t know that they made a waterproof model until after it was way too late to return it to get one.
