What size should a foam popper body be for smallmouth bass? I realize size 2 & 4 hooks will suffice, but I’m not sure of the foam body size. I’ve made my own bluegill poppers.

That’s a good question…I’ve never measured them. I try to make them (blockheads) just slightly smaller than I do for Largemouth Bass. For Largemouth, I’ve had better luck with bright green foam bodies on the poppers. For Smallmouth, I’ve done better with yellow foam bodies.
For size comparison to my hand…and knowing I use #8 Umpqua Tiemco 8089 or equivalent hooks:
I’ve gotten the new “Double Barrel” popper bodies in Medium and XL size. Medium will work, but is on the small side.
I’d like to see the Large size, but they didn’t have the color I wanted in stock when I ordered. XL is pretty big, more suited for BIG bass or pike.
