Flytyer's Dungeon

Placed a small order Jan 4, arrived Jan 15 (intact and of good quality). Never received a confirmation e-mail or shipping notice. So…, things are pretty much as they’ve always been with the Dungeon.
If you’re not in a hurry and are looking for good deals on some neat materials (Congo Hair is a staple in my tying), consider ordering from him. Just understand, his idea of customer service doesn’t include speed or communication.

Scott

My experience exactly - got one of his “christmas boxes” a few years back, and never saw so much neat stuff, but not great customer service.

I got the Christmas boxes as well. Good synthetic dubbing.

Scott,
I have some Congo Hair also. How about a pattern or two?

I think he has been off on a fishing trip.

Rick

Thanks very much Scott You keep me hopping!
Mike

Mike,

You’re welcome. How’s the new camera working?

Regards,
Scott

Scott,
The camera is working out great, but I need to tie something worthy of posting! Had to get a new battery, cheap, and I love the camera.
Mike

The mad scientist does not represent a large enterprise with a big staff. He is an individual that is providing good products at very good prices. There should be more guys like him.

I really like FTD; great materials at a great price.

Ray,

I love some of his products and will continue to purchase from him, realizing he’s not Amazon and the stuff’s not coming next-day (I learned, the hard way, never to order around Christmas).
However, when a customer has an issue (when I, or others I’ve talked to, have had problems with the Dungeon, it’s been with the shipping, not the quality of the materials), it’s common decency for him to communicate. Maybe not that moment or even that day, but in a reasonable amount of time, if just to say “Hey, I’m sorry but this is a one man operation and I’m doing the best I can. Sorry for the delay.”

Regards,
Scott

if you subscribe to his newsletter, you will read almost verbatim “this is a one man operation and I’m doing the best I can. Sorry for the delay.”

It seems to me, that for a very small operation, giving everyone the option to subscribe to a newsletter is much more efficient than answering hundreds of individual e-mails asking why they don’t have the materials they ordered in their mailbox. I just got a new newsletter a couple hours ago in fact. Says he is currently about 5 days backlogged on orders right now.

Well, there you go; I don’t subscribe to the newsletter, but that’s putting it out there front and center. He should probably put that banner on the home page, too, although it might scare some customers off.

Regards,
Scott

BTW in that newsletter he is making a new offering of dubbing in bulk…for big fly tyers.

Placed an order Wednesday and it arrived on Friday; admittedly, I’m only 150 miles away from them currently but that’s pretty quick delivery. Received e-mails with confirmation of order and USPS tracking info; looks like the Dungeonmaster has stepped up his customer service game.

Scott

I keep hearing Congo Hair, especially in john Scott’s patterns. I understand that it is a material developed by Dungeon, but is there some special characteristic that makes it better than other wing materials? Is it water resistant, etc.?

Scott
I ordered on Thursday and my order arrived Saturday. My order was confirmed about 15 minutes after I placed it and a shipping email with a tracking number was received about 2 hours after that. I would say that they have stepped up their game 100 fold. By the way, I live in Ohio. Could not be more pleased.

Congo hair is a lot like EP fibers, but much cheaper. I find it handles and performs just like EP fibers and being a cheapskate, it is my winging fiber of choice. It makes great para posts also.

Brad

Thanks Brad. I’ll give in and order some.
