I may have a chance to attend a conference in Colorado Springs in August (unfortunately exactly the same date as the Michigan Fish-In) 8/14-8/17. Wondering if anyone would have any tips? Nearest waters, reasonable guides, public access issues, etc.
I think your mental health would be better served at the Fish-In, dump the trip!
This might get you started. Let me know if you’re coming. I could meet you somewhere.

Check out the S. Platte that is immediatley west of C.S. You can go to Deckers that is an easy drive, into Cheeseman Cyn that requires a short hike and has big fish, or Spinnney that is a litte further and has big fish, too. Angler’s Covey can get you started in the right direction. The S. Platte is a favorite of mine in CO.
I would try the South Platte river. Which covers a lot. Deckers, dream stream(Spinney mountain ranch, Spinney res, 11 mile res., Cheesman Canyon, 11 mile canyon, When someone says Souith Platte that covers alot of water…Being that you will be in Colorado Springs for just a short time I would concentrate my efforts in 11 mile canyon it’s an easy 45 minute drive from Colorado Springs. There are also a couple of lakes on the drive to Pikes Peak. North catamount lake (30 minute drive) is for lures and flies only. Clear high mountian lake and beautiful. Bring a 8 1/2 or 9 ft 5wt rod…and a rain jacket. You can just about bet on a rain shower in the mountains every afternoon. This link should help a little bit with 11 mile Canyon…which is a tailwater. Catch and release only in the upper section. August you can get into several different hatches but it’s pretty much a midge fishery.
