Considering a trip to Barbados perhaps next summer/early fall. Anyone have an idea as to what kinda fish they have there? I have heard there are bones and permit and lots of jack. No luck finding gly guides so far, but this a long way off…
Thanks for any help.

There aren’t many fly fishing opportunities in Barbados. The east side is exposed to the Atlantic, and rough. The west side is calm. The island is volcanic, so there are no flats. Thus no bone fish. I also doubt there are any permit. I found plenty of guides with boats who troll, but no fly guides. There are plenty of baracuda, dolphin fish (mahi-mahi) mackrel and flying fish (the national fish). I did some fly fishing wading in 2-4’ of water, early in the morning, casting over submerged volcanic rock and jigging popers on the top. (After 9:30 (March) the water gets too warm and the fish head down into cooler water.) It was fun, but not a true fly fishing experience.
Guess I’ll just tie up a bunch of clousers, crabs, and shrimp and hope for the best.
