Fly Tying Video

I just posted my first fly tying video. It is the Pom-Pom Spider

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOG-xl-vA7o]

I had a few issues, but I am learning. I couldn’t stop the periodic frame-jumping. That happened when I had to convert the video to .avi because my Corel X-2 Editing software doesn’t recognize the HD 264 format that my camcorder uses. And , I’ m learning about lighting, and other stuff, as well. It’s an inexpensive Sanyo VPC-HD100. It takes great video, but probably doesn’t have enough adjustments for studio-type work. I may upgrade after I learn what I’m doing.

I’d appreciate any suggestions. I want to learn to do this right.

I’d like to master a companion DVD to go with the Fly Tying book I am writing. It’ll be a long learning process, but so far, it’s a lot of fun.

Very well done! I enjoyed the video!
I’ve done a couple picture tutorials of flies, and would also enjoy moving into video.
Again, well done!

Gigmaster,

Great first video.

I am not a professional Youtube critic so just take this as free advice.

  • On you video camera, take off the auto focus and focus only on your vise. It is distracting when the camera went out of focus of the vise.

  • Talk as you tie. Explain the material as you are putting it on the hook (I like to see action) Have the Material ready to go on the hook.

  • A one man production is tuff, consider a cameraman especially when you move your hands out of frame.(as a one man production I would have shown the hook in the vice, explained the pompoms….. tuff to handle….. so I have one with the pompoms already on the hook…put that hook in the vise….glue…. tie the fly.

You started out slow(lots of talk) but as soon as you started to tie it picked up and went smoothly. You have a great voice and you seem natural in front of the camera.
Good Luck in the future.

Respectfully,
Sean
