Fly Tying Book Question

I was lookin through some old furnitur that we have in our basement this morning and i found a book named Noll Guide To Trout Flies And How To Tie Them. thids book was printed around 1970 and i never hear of it before, it has some great patterns inside. Any one know of this book??

Oh yeah :!: That little book has been “The Bible” for many fly tyers. That book along with Helen Shaws Book and Ray Bergmans Trout are what I cut my flytying and fishing teeth on. Shows how old I am huh :?:

That book was sold by it’s self. I bought a copy in 1971 and still have it. Great book. I used it for color in the flies. Back then most books didn’t have color in them like they do today so we used that book a lot. Brings back a lot of old memories. Thanks :wink: Ron

Great little reference book. I’ve also seen the same book sold under the name “Family Circle’s Guide to Trout Flies and How to Tie Them”.

I picked up a 1970 copy of that book at a flea market JUST for those gorgious color plates!

My one of these days plan is to scan the plates so I can make shadow boxes with real flies next to the pictures.

I have the book also. I would not like to try and learn to tie flies from it however. :smiley:
