Hey Guy’s,
I see they sre no longer a Sponser so I’ll throw the question out here.
I bought some when they first became a Sponser and it works Great well today I went to do some tying and opened the jar up to do my “Rasp’s” aka fingers and it had started seperating a fine film of liquid was floating on top it was sticky and just didn’t work.
My question to You is has this happened to anybody else?
If it has how did You fix this?
Thanks for any and all answers.
you have to mix it up every so often its rather comman with many balms
Bill,
They’re still sponsors on here … check out dot man’s “Fly Reel Dots” page. He still has the treatment listed.
Two things … use a toothpick to mix it all back together again, and melt it in the microwave JUST BARELY to smooth it all back together.
I contacted Christopher Dahl a couple of two three years back asking him about the shelf life of his products. Both the finger and hand/plam treatments have a limited shelf life as there are no preservative and they are made of natural ingredients. If I recall correctly the shelf life is about 3 months (I am not 100% certain as to this statement).
Edit: Not wanting to mislead anyone, I have emailed Christopher Dahl the maker of the finger treatment to confirm my understanding of the shelf life. As soon as I hear back I will update my reply if necessary.)
TyroneFly I didn’t realize the stuff had a short shelf life, used it at my last tying session a couple of weeks ago and no problems.
Charlaine I’ll try the stir bit if that dont work I’ll "Nuke it slightly and stir as Betty suggested.
If all that dont work I guess Ill have to buy some more, the sides of my fingers are so calloused they feel like Rasps and I cut the thread when tying.
Thanks to all for the suggestions.
I have some that is three years old and still works fine. If it only worked for three months I sure wouldn’t be using it.
curel unscented hand lotion works for me.
Bill, the same thing happened to me. It’s too bad, because I really liked the stuff (Yosemite?). I’d like to buy more if I knew where to start.
Eric
I use Cornhuskers during the winter.
I emailed Christopher Dahl the maker of the finger treatment. I wanted to confirm my statement of 3 months shelf life. He has yet to reply. I think it best that I edit my post above until I have heard back from him.
I have a small jar on my tying desk that’s still going fine after 3+ years. I normally just use a dab for my thumb and index finger so a small jar may last for a decade or more!

Well I tried stirring, No Luck.
Tried “Nukeing”, No Luck.
I Think I’m gonna have to buy another jar, I might have gotten a “Bum” one.
It’s the only stuff that take’s care of my calouses on my fingers…I can “Rasp” pine with the side of em.
