Lets take a poll here. Who is a better candidate for fly tier of the year:
- a ties who ties beautiful flies and ties at shows and who’s flies are never fished
- a guy who ties flies and catches a ton of fish with his flies
well you get to vote for who will be the fly tier of the year than all the votes get added up
The answer is “yes”. No two of us have the same set of values, so no two of us will agree on what “better” means. they both achieve what they wish to achieve, and having met their goal, they can rest on their laurels. Now, I better not say anything else.
PS. Leave me out of any tying contest.

what kind of organizational skills do you have to pull this off??
have you ever run a contest of this nature or is this the first time??
have you lined up sponsors for prizes??
how many categories do you expect and do you envision a 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winner in each category??
the flytyingforum site takes months of planning before even announcing the contest details, are you planning this contest for the present or for the future???

For me personnally if you want to enter a tying contest that’s your choice, I may enter FTF’s just to say I did BUT my idea of a
Fly Tyer of the Year, applies to every person on every tying site on the web who demonstrates, encourages , gives advice, and helps teach how to tie flies.
They are all the True Fly Tyers of the Year, every year!!!
