this is done on antoher forum i was wondering if any body thought of doing a Fly Tier of the Year Contest on this forum
How about our ‘Atlantics’?
what i ment was for all types of flies. Classic Flies
Streamer
Wet fly
Both styles are seperate categories
Trout
Dry
Subsurface(nymph,emerger,wet,etc.)

All 3 styles are seperate categories
Largemouth Bass
Can enter up to two flies; 1 topwater and 1 subsurface. Multiple flies for the same style is not permitted(two streamers for example).
Smallmouth Bass
Can enter up to two flies; 1 topwater and 1 subsurface. Multiple flies for the same style is not permitted(two streamers for example).
Panfish
Can enter up to three flies; 1 nymph, 1 streamer and 1 topwater. Multiple flies for the same style is not permitted(two streamers for example).
Steelhead & Salmon
Hairwing
Spey and Dee

Free Style
All 4 styles are seperate categories
Great Lakes Steelhead & Salmon
Can enter up to two flies; 1 nymph and 1 egg. Multiple flies for the same style is not permitted(two eggs for example).
Pike
Can enter up to two flies; 1 subsurface and 1 topwater. Multiple flies for the same style is not permitted(two streamers for example).
Saltwater
Can enter up to two flies; 1 subsurface and 1 topwater. Multiple flies for the same style is not permitted(two streamers for example).
Special Categories
Most Creative Fly
Participants may submit one fly for “Most Creative Fly”. Submissions are only limited by your own imagination and creativity. Flies do not have to be designed to be fished with and can be made using ANY type of material. The only rule is the fly must be tied on a hook; any style or size.
Rookie of the Year
Any participant who has been tying for less than one year may submit their fly for “Rookie of the Year” consideration, in addition to any other category their fly is already entered into.
Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Award
This category is open to any style or pattern that is tied on a size 20 hook or smaller. Hook size will be displayed during voting.
Most Realistic
Award for the best realistic fly. No limitations for style, size or imitation, but it must be tied on a hook.

Sounds fun. I like the idea.
I like the idea of giving each species more than one category. That way more people have a chance of winning. I’d enter the panfish topwater area.
the way it goes is the 3 top winners in each category gets a prize
I’ve been a part of it on that other place. A lot of fun, it wsa extremely well organised and run. I enjoyed it. I must say it would be an enormous amount of work photographing and cataloguing for whoever won that role.

The members should be the judge, to make it more fair, like the atlantic salmon fly contest.
here are the rules from the other forum
Participant may enter as many categories as you desire. Only one submission for each category.
? All submissions become property of the host and can be used for any means that is deemed necessary.
? Each participant must print and fill out the following application and submit it with the entries. If your fly should be photographed upside down or “hook point up”, please provide that information. We cannot be responsible for flies misrepresented if this information is not disclosed. Once the submission deadline has expired each fly will be photographed and uploaded to the appropriate category.
? Registered members of Flyanglers Online may vote once per category. Participants in each category may vote for any entry other than their individual submission. Names of contestants will not be revealed until voting is closed. Voting members’ names shall not be revealed at any time.
? Winners shall be determined by the following. Category winners shall be chosen by the entry receiving the most votes in each category… The “Best Overall Fly” will be determined by another round of voting. Like I said - works great, but boy, what a task… Think of all the flies! The photography… I wonder what would be the incentive for the folk at FAOL to consider to undertake such a task? Maybe a fundraiser for FAOL or even something else? Returned vets or whatever? There could be a small charge per fly maybe? Anyway I’ll shuddup and let you people work it out.
Could be a couple to few dollar per fly entry fee. Winner wins half, FAOL wins half, host wins flies… ???

are you ready to spend hours and hours at night to professionally photograph all of the flies that will be entered in this contest??
are you ready to set up a polling and voting web page within faol for members to view and cast their vote??
theres alot more to do than what ive posted here.
i think its a nice idea but it just hasnt been thought out enough.

Getting prizes for 17 or so different catagories (that’s only for 1st place), photographing all the flies in a very professional manner so voting isn’t skewed by the quality of the photographs, acknowledging the reciept of each entry, ensuring the rules are followed (no double entries), keeping the entries in perfect condition (they do belong to FAOL after all) for future use, making sure there is ample room on FAOL to place the photos for the judging, sounds like a lot of work so we can have the same contest as another forum.
Why not just enter their contest? A lot of tiers for the Atlantic Tying Contest on FAOL are tiers from the other site. If they post here at all (with the exception of Ronn Lucas Sr.) it’s once in a blue moon. Why not do the same in reverse?
We don’t have to have the exact same contest as them. But a contest im some sort of mannor would be cool. Not that I could even compete with some of you pros. But still fun:)

Winner wins half, FAOL wins half, host wins flies unless some one can come up with some thing eles for the prizes. other that that iam all for it all we need is the ok from j castwell and ladyfisher and some body to help me creat the web page for voting like i said i have no promblem hosting this contest
