Personally, I’d go with something like Bamboozle suggested and you could attach it many ways.
If you need a fishing bike, do it right:
This is the best way I’ve found to transform my mountain bike into a “fishing bike”. The big advantage to this system is that it can be added or removed from the bike literally in seconds. Unfortunately, it ain’t exactly cheap. If you shop around, you should be able to get away for around $150 for the whole thing, and it can be used for things other than fishing gear as well. My travel rod fits nicely in it’s tube on top of the rear bag, and is held securely by the elastic webbing - I use a small carabiner to attach the handle of the tube to the handle of the bag (very secure). Boots and wading socks go in the panier bags, and the front bag works great for a fishing fanny pack. No modifications required - just buy it, attach it, and go fish. When you’re done, it all comes off in seconds. By buying additional mounts for the front bag, and adding them to your bikes, you can transform the bike of your choice to a fishing bike in seconds. This system works GREAT!

I know you were sort of kidding but if you read my first post, you will see “PVC”. I wasn’t mentioning the price to sound snobby. I was making the point that my bike is way more expensive than my beginners fly gear. My Chumba cost as much as my venerable, old, 1996 Land Rover (daily driver).
Regarding the “King Fisher” Vanilla Bike I think that is the most incredible bike I have ever seen and I have seen a bunch.
Concerning Robert Troup. I wonder if he would share design secrets. Attachment at the fork would be one area I would love to see close-up. I am sure the item could be replicated but it would be nice to see some of his old photos or drawings.
Tomorrow morning I will be launching my Tarpon T160i at Pine Island (Florida) for my second kayak fly-fishing trip. I will be casting (attempting to) clousers and assorted other flies to attract stupid Red Fish.

INcredible! Maybe I should re-examine the bags, panniers and racks I already own and see if it makes sense to “use what I got.” I sure have a lot to think about and I don’t want to fatigue my head.
