here goes one of those “how long is a peice of string” questions.
What is the best dry fly for hatchery raised(if it makes a difference) brook trout?
Renegades, Rio Grande Kings, Suckers Pawns,
H & L Variant (also called the Lazy Ike),
anything peacock like Gray Uglies, Peacock Ladys, Pregnant Peacocks, Apache Peacocks, & Apache Renegades. Black Humpy with Hot Pink or Flo Orange Body. Patriot.
That’s just a short list lol !!!
spun deer hair pellet fly…
I have caught some nice trout in a small lake at the headwaters of a mile long creek on Prince of Whales island in Alaska ,fly fishing with a plain gold #12 salmon egg hook. More than one hit this on the retrieve. Lots of fun.
Here we have the Uinta’s. Thousands of lakes. The small brookie here like Royal Wulffs, Royal Humpy’s anything with a pinch of red. Also they hit on purple cripples.
In east Tennessee it appears to be something yellow. That can mean a dry, wet, nymph, or streamer. The “yaller hammer” family of flies is still popular, even if we have to use “imitation yaller hamer”.
