Here are some I have played with for bass/gills. I haven’t really fished the head prop much but I spent some time throwing the tail prop a couple days ago for spotted bass. I was finding that the fish wanted the bait making as much commotion as I could get it to make. Switched from a streamer to the tail prop and got a lot of hits but had a very hard time getting a hook set. I think the mono was too stiff for the little fish that were taking it. I have some props that are about half the size that I think will try next with some smaller mono to see if I can get it to work better.
Yes, It is my understanding the Pistol Pete was/is named for Pete Parker, AND if you so a search in the Fly of the Week on Fly Anglers OnLine you will see the actual fly tied by Pete himself. Love it!
I have experimented with them in warm water . They do seem to help attract a bass’s attention but seemed to put off catfish. These are just impressions as I gave up on them primarily because they would get guncked up with moss etc .
This thread inspired me, which is not always a good thing. This is pretty and hasn’t been tried yet, I know the propeller section is free spinning and I think this will be a lot of fun next spring, maybe this fall when bass and big bream return to the shallows.
I’ve just ordered some small propellers from Feathercraft for some experiments. I question I have however relates to their use. If, as suggested, I put one on the leader ahead of a little bead won’t the sharp pierced edge of the hole in the propeller cut or notch the leader?
