I’m looking for a book with detailed tying patterns for Northern Michigan. Hatch charts are easy to come by but being a novice tier I need step by step pictures/instructions.
I’m going to do a Google search but think I’ll be more succesful here.
Jack,
This may be what you are looking for but IMO you can probably create your own book by using a hatch chart and searching the patterns on FAOL. Most of the published hatch charts are based on the Grayling area so you have to adjust the dates by a week or two depending if you are north or south.

Rangerman is right about the book but it doesn’t have step-by-step instructions. If you have completed Al’s 20 Lessons for Beginning Flytying here, then you would have little trouble following the recipes included in Lofland’s book. I bought my book at Baldwin Bait and Tackle; I think I also saw it in the Fly Factory and at Lunkers.
Looking forward to 2006.
Cordially,

Although not Michigan specific, I’m sure that Ross Mueller’s pattern books for the Wisconsin would be useful.
