fly of the week

I was thinking of adding wire between beads to keep it down in fast water what do yall think?

OCN,

Four glass beads are pretty weighty, so try it first and see.

Lead wire between the glass beads will add more weight, switching to heavier or larger beads, adding dumbell eyes, lots of ways to make it heavier if you actually NEED it heavier.

No reason that I can see not to play with it all you want.

Good Luck!

Buddy

I didn’t know it at the time, but Al helped me catch this fish. Here’s the 28" pike and the beady little thing that caught it.

Recipe:
scud hook
wire with ice dub glued on for thread
3 orange glass beads
tungsten bead head

Fishing tip: toss it out with 4x tippet in a lake with bass, sunnies, crappies and pike and take your chances on what will bite. Be amazed when the pike doesn’t break the tippet. Be wary of how small the fish makes the boat look. Be grateful when your buddy will net and hold a slimy, smelly pike that you refuse to touch. Challenge yourself to make a more weird framing job than this.

“slimy smelly pike”?

Man, those great fish deserve more respect than that!

Excessively slippery and exceptionally odiferous?

“Challenge yourself to make a more weird framing job than this.”
That could be the funniest thing I have ever heard, thanks for the laugh.

A bum-legged old man and a drunk. That’s all you got?
That’s WHAT I got.

“Excessively slippery and exceptionally odiferous?”

Ahhhh much better!

oncloudnine,

I usually fish it with a small rolled piece of “Loon Outdoors-Deep Soft Weight”, non-lead, non-toxic, about 12" to 18" up on the tippet. Roll the weight on in sort of a torpedo tapered shape and it seems to get caught on the bottom a mite less then if you use a small ball shape like a split shot. In slower water sometimes ride it as a dropper off an indicator.
