Fly Line(s) for TX Coast Redfishing?

Will a floating line be enough? Or does one need sinking or intermediate lines also? I am planning a flat kayak trip to somewhere around Aransas Pass.

Funny how I finally managed to read the forums after a week of being gone and had the exact same question. Id also like to know if its possible and feasible to use a redfish specific floating taper for fly fishing speckled trout in the bays…Funny thing is Im looking to fish for specks and reds in the same area as the above poster.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Bruce,

When I inshore fish, I just use a WF-9-F SA Ultra fly line on my 9wt. because the flats are shallow enough for it. I can catch both sea trout and reds on it with a 9 foot leader. For deeper water like in channels and such, I’d switch to a sink-tip or sinking line. I just don’t feel the need for a specialized fly line for my purposes.

Is the Ultra a Saltwater class line?

Is the Ultra a Saltwater class line?

I don’t think it is “specifically for salt” but I have had mine in the brine for many years now through a lot of different fish and it is still in excellent shape. I probably did get the Saltwater type come to think of it.
