DShock lives in Oregon according to his profile. I do not see any reference to him on the sites showing the flies here. They are very nice flies! However it is pointless to ask him how he tied them. The Stimulator can be viewed here http://www.yellowsonfly.com/Fly_Patterns.html
Copyright 2006 Keith Wallington. He is in South Africa.
Now if DShock had commented on the difficulty of tying these patterns, or asked questions re. materials, or told of a difficult fish/situation that needed this tie, then this would be an interesting thread. At the moment the most interesting thing about it is the confusion that DShock tied the flies.
I don’t think there’s any confusion…Dshock posted them as “fly images”
that’s what they are, and they’re good ones. I tie flies from images only all the time.
…ModocDan
When I look at nicely tied flies I get Ideas for paterns of my own, that diving caddis gives me Ideas for october Caddis, Now all I have to do is get away from work and to my vice.
Nice Pictures Doug.
I think the shack nasties are geting to some of us.
Ray,
The TITLE of the Post is “FLY IMAGES”
I did NOT Tie any of these Flies! I do not have a Digital Camera!
Repeat after me! FLY IMAGES!
If you look up the “Female Beadhead Diving Caddis” You might find the Tutorial and then you might be HAPPY! to learn it is easy to tie!
If you would like to view IMAGES, got to Google and Click on Images!
Have a Nice Day!
Doug
Thanks, Doug!
Especially for the “Hydralator”, pic! I’ve seen a ton of typically “small” pictures of this fly, but nothing this large before so the one ya’ posted is great! MUCH, easier to figure the tie and proportions this way.
The others, you posted, are very realistic looking, (as you’d noted), but if I tied them I’d probably forget I did then when seeing them again, either stomp on them or spray them with Raid.
Thanks for the post!
Greg H,
I apologize! Most of these Flies are impossible for a “Mere Mortal” to Tie! Something for you to ponder today! If you see MY Post & You notice it says “Fly Images” Well, that means it doesn’t say “DOUG’S FLY PHOTOS” If you would like to know more about these flies go to Google & Click on Images and you might find a Tutorial for the FBDC Fly.
Have a Nice Day!
Doug
Well, I’ll throw out a guess of 38 1/2 lbs on the brown. I mean Huge brown.
Great flies, by the way…ModocDan
Incidentally, the largest Brown I ever caught was in 1969 on Fall River in northern Ca.
I caught it on a big gob of turkey feathers tied to imitate a mouse. He was about 8 lbs. and had a full grown muskrat and a 20 " water snake in his belly. I was 13. I never saw a brown as big as the one in the picture. :)
Dougy…
REALLY WISH, you wouldn’t have posted this guy’s website! Got “lost” there for about an hour, reading and looking at his gorgeous photos and artistic ability!
ANYONE, that can tie flies, THAT realistic, is almost spooky!
Oh, your “Big Brown weight guess”…
Using the tried and true formula, of:
G X 7.34 + H X 3.21, Divided by XD (as a known factor of X minus L), using “X” as a constant variable, less natural weight, (derived by taking M to the 3rd. core), multiplying that, by the estimated size of the fisherman’s hands…
He’s BIG!
Just so happens that Female Beadhead Diving Caddis one one I picked to look up because it looks pretty easy and I am looking for some winged critters to tie.
