Fly Girl Rod

Tell me what you think of the fly girl rod. Thinking of one of these andthe pink Ross,if I can get it, for my wife. If not this what would you reccomend?

what color are they… I know of some ‘Pink’ fly rods about to hit the market soon.

the Flygirl rod is purple, or at least it was some months ago. My idea - put out your fly fishing goodies and have your dear wife choose what she wants. I scored a lovely Fenwick Steamer 5 wt rod last year for a pittance. I love this rod. Of all the rods I own quess which one my honey chose. The Streamer is hers now. SHe cast all of my rods in every weight and the Streamer was the best for her. Then I found a Ross Colorado and extra spool for fifty bucks, and both units had line. I put out my Marryat, the Ross, the Teton Tiogas and my beloved Lord Weldon reels. She chose the Colorado because “Oooooo, I like how that one sounds”. So that is that. Have some fun, take a risk and enjoy the process. Might as well have her happy. Btw, I understand that those Flygirl rods are alright.

“Give me ambiguity or give me something else”

I just purchased a Wright McGill Fly Girl 7’6 4 wt for my wife and it is a great rod. It is a purple color but dark and looks black depending on the light. The rod handles very well and with the 4WF line casts like a dream. We went out yesturday morning and she caught 3 nice trout on it. I would highly recommend it. She enjoyed having a rod of her own and that is what counts.

I remember years back, a buddy and I went to Reno, Nevada on a business trip. We had an afternoon off so drove the rental car out to a nice golf course just outside of town. We walked in and said we wanted to rent some clubs. All that was left was two sets of “ladies” clubs, a pink grip/bag and a tourquise grip/bag Spalding outfit. We took them and played some of the best golf ever. I imagine it would be the same with the purple/pink rods, probably land a state record if your wife ever lets you borrow it.

I looked at this rod, thought it was a nice looking rod, seen it had a lifetime warranty. What bothered me was “made in china” The Rod sells for app 200.00 and I can put her in a St Croix for that. Just wanting a smaller grip for a woman. Looking for a good rod for me lovely bride.

hi BillMc

Might be a good idea to take her shopping and let her cast a few, see what feels good to her. She may well like the Fly Girl best. But you’d know you were getting the right one if she got to choose, plus it could be a fun date.

I have not seen a Fly Girl Rod so don’t have too much room to talk. That being said, it seems to me that most women would not have a hard time with most “regular” fly rods. I mean Joan Wulff and our own LF seem to do a fantastic job of it with the run of the mill.

Not that it would not be a wonderful gesture; I am sure that many ladies would be pleased to receive such a thoughtful gift. But that aside and strictly addressing the casting aspect, what do y’all think?

Quality first! That being said, I am certain my wife would love a purple rod for the same reasons she likes colorful shirts, fingernail polish, her purple pliers, and her pink reel.

“Time’s fun when you’re having flies.” Kermit the Frog

Pink fly rod made by Loon Outdoors. Part of sale price goes to Breast Cancer research. Can be seen at their website. can be held in their outlet in Boise.

They also have a pink lochsa fly reel to match. also sends $$ to Breast Cancer Research.

Check it out. I want one, and not for my wife. I just wanna see the looks on the faces of the “tough guy” FFers out there.

I just made four calls to W&M to ask about the Fly Girl line. I asked for marketing or advertising. My first call was routed to customer service anyway. Nothing. Tried it again, this time got voice mail. Called again. After giving them more information as to why I was calling (ten am. Friday, 14th) that there was a big show in Las Vegas next week and the whole sales and marketing departments had already left. There was no one at W&M who could help me until after next week. Glad I didn’t have a problem.
