Fly fishing is the ticket to snook success

I’ve been doing well on fly rod for beach snook and landing some large fish. My buddy uses spinning equipment and he has been skunked four trips in a row.
I have some hunches as to why.
I got five today up to 31 inches. He didn’t score.

Steve,

Do you think the beach snook fishing will hold up for the next couple of weeks. I’ll be at The Colony on Labor Day weekend and intend to bring the fly rod. Beach fishing up here has been real spotty all summer. Also, is there any good kayak water and launches close to The Colony. I looked on the aerials and didn’t see anything. I was thinking about loading up the kayaks, but I’m not sure I want to fool with them.

Yes, beach snook action should be good when you’re here. I don’t fish Longboat Key much, but there are snook in the surf. I fish further south around Englewood.
There’s some excellent kayak water near The Colony. There’s a launch at Buttonwood Harbor. LBK does its best to camoflage it, but it’s there. It’s located right across the street from one of the public beach accesses.
