Is there anyone out there that has a specific Brand they like to use? I use Orvis Superstrong mono tippet and love it, but I don?t have the money to try several different brands of fluoro. I will be using it this fall for Salmon to help with abrasion and to get the fly down faster, however minute the advantages. I will most likely use 6-10lb class depending on the fish. Any help will be most appreciated.
I only use Rio. I’ve used it for years and I think it outlasts anythng else on the market.
And to answer questions that I know will pop up, yes I have used almost every product on the market over the years. The Rio is my favorite.
Ihave only used Orvis and RIO and seem to like the Rio better,Rio is softer or so it seems to me.

Tell me if I’m wrong or if things have changed…I think by the published specifications Seaguar is the strongest…diameter vs # test…
Hey Duck? You are correct. We saw a demo of the Seaguar against various other brands of the same diameter…amazing.
While I can’t comment on Seaguar in the 6-10lb class I do use their 8X and to say it strong for it’s diameter would be an understatement.

It’s #1 on my list followed closely by Rio FluoroFlex PLUS.
I use Precision Fluorocarbon. This was recommended from a friend that fishes both bass and trout around here. I tried it, and it was either a ‘good luck day’ or a change of tippet that brought in more fish. I caught almost twice as many as I normally caught. (Some were smaller than normal and went back to grow some more.) I’m certainly not saying that changing the tippet was the only reason, but I think it sure helped because I used the same type of flies that day and the river level didn’t change.
DianeID…are you saying you changed from another brand of fluoro …or did you change from mono to fluoro?
I use Cabela’s house brand fluoro. Comes in hundred meter spools, so I don’t have to buy it as often. I have no complaints on it so far.

Just curious, do ya’ll use flourocarbon tippets with topwater flies? I tried it,but didn’t care for the way it sinks, pulling the fly down. I tried using a floatant, and it worked for a little while, but went back to my regular tippet material. I do use it for sinking flies, but haven’t noticed any difference in the amount of fish caught, but I am fishing in water that is the color of strong coffee, with many obstuctions in it such as stumps, weeds, etc. I do think it has more abrasion resistance than the mono though!
I WISH my fluoro would sink.
I can’t seem to find any brand that breaks the surface tension the way I want it to. I purposely treat my tippet to make it sink when fishing dries which is 99% of the time.
I don’t notice any ill effects when my tippet sinks fishing dries. I feel a tippet NOT in the surface film is less visible to the fish based on my observations. I do want the rest of the leader to float though.

I am a steelhead fisherman and I use Grand Max fluorcarbon by Seaguar 5X is .006 and 4.8lbs Test 4Xis.007and 7lbs test. tuff stuff but price-eee.

I have used every brand and formulation possible over the years. In my opinion 
Seaguar Grand Max is without question the finest fluorocarbon tippet material available on the market today. As mentioned above Seaguar (parent company Kreha Corp.) invented fluorocarbon so it only stands to reason that those with the most experience offer the best product.
Over and over again I have been amazed by Grand Max’s performance. Landing a very hard fighting Atlantic Salmon of nearly 40 pounds on 4X after running through boulder fields and around fallen trees was impressive. We at Mustad are now offering some premium pre-tied leaders that offer fluorocarbon and of course we chose to use Seaguar for that as well.
The Grand Max is not cheap BUT it is worth every penny and more when situations call for fluoro.

The most expensive fluoro tippet costs about two-bits each. Anyone having a problem with that might consider taking up golf instead. But, if you like a real challenge, keep using the cheap stuff. It makes actually landing a fish a real victory and something to be proud of. Heck, anybody can land one on the good stuff.

Thank you everyone for the input, seems Grand Max will be my investment for the trip. Hopefully it holds up and I’ll have some pictures to show the results. Tight lines to all.
I’m sure you’ll be happy with it. As with all fluoro, be sure to lubricate knots fully before tightening them.
