I have a few questions, and didn’t want to hijack the other threads, so I started this one.
I’m a relatively unexperienced pirate. I’ve only been out in the salt once (for the record, I did not get skunked!). I’m going to be at the fish in, but I don’t know that I can afford the hotel stay. Are there any state parks or camping areas for some good ole fashioned tent camping nearby? I have some friends in Clearwater that I could stay with, but that looks a little far from Charlotte harbor.
LadyFisher,
I saw the campgrounds listed, but right below it says something like “campgrounds are expensive (averaging 48 dollars per night).” The whole reason I was asking about campgrounds is because I can’t quite afford an expensive stay, even at a campground. I work as an AmeriCorps volunteer and at that price, I would be forking out a big chunk of my monthly income. When you factor in the price of gas from Tallahassee to Charlotte Harbor, and the price of other incidentals (a couple of leaders, bread and meat to make myself sandwiches for the days that I’ll be there, and a few of the flies that I’m not skilled enough to tie, etc.) the Fish-in can start to look a little expensive.
I suppose that I should have been more specific.
Does anyone know which state parks are closest to the meetup site? I’d like to stay someplace where I only have to pay a few dollars a night (hopefully no more than 10) to put my tent on a soggy piece of grass. Shoot, I’d even be willing to pitch my tent in a backyard if someone would agree to let me clean their toilets or something, as rent.
Thanks again.

I checked some of the state parks and they are in the 24 to 30 dollar range. Give me a day or so and I will try to find someone with a back yard that will let you crash there. It might be north of the fish in but heck we are going to commute so it is not too bad.
Cross your fingers.
Harold
Do not worry about the flies, I’ll loan you some.

Oscar Sherer State Park in Osprey is the closest campground. Probably a 15 minute drive to Venice. Since you’re with AmeriCorps, maybe you get the employees discount !
