float tube question

for users of this style float tube, do the sides collapse when you are sitting in it and floating around??

Hi Norm,

Answer: NO, they don’t collapse, bow inward or anything else like that.

I currently own three float tubes ( although that number seems to change as fast as the wind direction ), the Super Fat Cat being the youngest in corral - a little over a year old.

It’s carried anglers from 140 pounds to upwards of 300 pounds ( I’m guessing at someone’s weight and I hope he’s not reading this. ) without any inward deflection.

Qualifier: When properly inflated.

Best, Dave

thanks dave.

i’m 220ish and have been torn between that type of float tube and a pontoon. i just dont have the storage room for the toon except if i leave it outside in the elements, and i’m not sure i want to do that. i think i could store a toon under my deck but that would mean dragging it on concrete every time i want to use and then put it away.

Sent you a PM Norman, I fish out of one of these and found the $499 craft delivered for $250 on Ebay, it is made by the same company and called an Outcast. My rear is out of the water, it came with oars and an anchor system for windy days and has 4 air chambers. For the price of a Fat Cat at list you can do better.

No…Most “U” tubes have a detachable spreader bar that crosses the top forward section of the tube that keeps it spread. I’ve hunted out of one (220 plus gun/ammo) and had zero problem.

The Fatcats do not need a spreader bar. And they work great.

Fishcat deluxe owner here and they do not collapse or need any bar.
Love mine, I would opt for the inflatable seat and seat back on the deluxe.
I could and almost have nodded off they are so comfortable.

Mine fits in a hockey bag with all the fins boots, pump and fishing gear I need to go.
It will pack up smaller if you want.
I wanted a pontoon boat but storage and ease of transport makes me use this a lot more.
I can take it and put it in anywhere I want.

DuFf

“U” tubes do need a cross bar, but “V” tubes do not.
Some have styro seats , but most have inflatable.

If you want something bigger and more stable then look at North Fork Outdoors for a Freestyle H3 (a 6’ totally inflatable tube) or the Navigator II (a 9’ totally inflatable, but has a zipper in the back and an attachable shelf for motor and battery…plus OARS) This model has been discontinued, but I have one for sale at a KILLER price. Not much more than those SFC and this is urethane bladder, made in the USA and full warranty. Used about 8 times, but it has great MOJO.

Joni…I’m so sad:(:(:(…it’s still perfect for what I do!..Mojo… Mojo

If anyone wants to know about what FG has for sale …let me know and I’ll tell you the facts…BTW it’s a stillwater thing…and it is unique!
