It looks like I’m definately going (WAAAAAAAAAAAAAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!) and I want to be prepared.
What flies shoud I focus my tying efforts on?
Oh, and to top it all off, my wife might be coming too!!! Now that’s love, lol.

From my limited understanding October caddis would be a good bet.
Apparently one of our own has prepared a fly just for this occasion!

Well, well, well, caddis are one of my favorite flies to tie. I’ve got a pattern that has served me well in many places. I can’t wait to try it out!

TT,
If you can find some Aunt Lydia’s rust colored yarn, it make great dubbing. This one has always worked well for me.

That looks like a great pattern, Joe. I tie mine as an emerging caddis. The body is nothing but black thread wrapped down the hook with some red tinsel tied in, wrap the thread back up the hook, rib it with the tinsel, tie it off and tie on the deer or elk hair wings. Super simple, so far it’s been pretty deadly. I use a curved hook too, not the traditional dry fly hook. Sorry, but I don’t have a picture of it.

TT,
If we timed it right the October Caddis Hatch will be going strong while there. Think big bugs with a toned down orange body. I use John Scott’s fly (listed above)with a swipe of brown permanent marker down each side to tone down the orange.
My grey squirrel flymph was a great catcher last year as was the Baillie’s Black Spider. I just tried to find a link to the FOTW article on them, but couldn’t. There will be fly tying in the evening and I’ll have my usual suitcase of tying equipment to I can spin ya up a couple if you want. Better yet, I can show you how to tie them so you’ll know.
Also, Z, has great luck with size 14 elk hair caddis, but that’s a secret so I’d better not say anything.
REE
This one my sister in law got on a small Flimph REE showed her how to tie. Her first fly by the way!
Yes you could hear her screams of delight at least 1 mile away!!

Most any Caddis 10 to 14 depending on the Octobers Hatch and REE,s wets work well. I fish a Klink a lot it works well also.
Try your Caddis with some burnt orange thread, as emerges work very well.
We will see you there.
I might just do that, Dave. I was thinking about that last night…I’m going to tie some up today like that. Just have to make sure I still have some burnt orange thread left, lol.
I love fishing klink’s too. The trout up here LOVE them. This past Saturday I went out for my first bit of stream fishing since I broke my wrist…caught well over 100 fish, most of them on an Adam’s klink. At the end of the day, when I cut the fly off, there was nothing left of the body of the fly…just the hackle around the post and the head!
What color klink do they like…I’m guessing burnt orange?
