Oh, come on! You didn’t think I’d REALLY post a fishing report here, did you?!?
The trip was wonderful, but got me to thinking (not usually a good thing).
The waters we fished, we fished last year with Al Campbell. We told lots of stories about the past times we’d had with him.
Would there be interest in having a Fish-In in the Black Hills, similar to the one Al hosted in 1999? Maybe next May or September(06)? I would do some checking into stuff, if the interest is there.
Did drive back through Sturgis, where the National Cemetary is. It looked beautiful. If you’ve ever seen Arlington National Cemetary, Sturgis looks much like it, just on a smaller scale. Said a prayer for Al.
We actually talked to Al about this before he became ill, and he felt the drought conditions were still too serious and the numbers of fish had not yet recovered to even consider doing another Fish-In there for at least a couple of years.
Hey Betty;
If you heard a “click” in the background as you pushed the " post topic" button to post your fishing report here, that was Castwell loading . Whew, thankfully you clarified the situation in time.
Just a reminder to everyone, that anyone can have a Regional FAOL Fish-In any time they want, any where they want. Publisher (LadyFisher) gets to pick the annual site and location, but members can have their own Regional FAOL Fish-In too!
I should know, because I thought the idea up, many years ago.
~ Parnelli
Down in the meadow in a little bitty pool
Swam three little fishies and a mama fishie too
“Swim” said the mama fishie, “Swim if you can”
And they swam and they swam all over the dam

'Spose I could do a regional fish-in, but I don’t know too many people who’d want to come to Kansas City for the fishing!!! Ribs, yes, but fishing, questionable.
There’s something totally magical about the Black Hills. The scenery, the fishing, the people. SOMEDAY we’ll have another Fish-in up there. Stay tuned!
PS to Parnelli…I had that da*m song in my mind all through the Hills!! Some way to do technical fishing!!
Trouts don’t live in ugly places

Thought you would have said hello while you were up this way. With all the rain we’ve had lately (and that foot of wet snow in May), we might survive a itty-bitty Fish-in next year if the rain keeps up.

I tie flies to give the fish something to laugh about.
My Wife & I were in the Hills over Memorial Day also, we had a great time even though it was windy & cold.
It would have been fun to have a little “mini” fish-in, even if it was just lunch at the Moonshine Gulch Saloon!(THE best burger & homemade frys in the Hills!)
We could post when going, then if anyone wanted to join in we could have a little get together.
Ya know, I’ve driven by that place and never realized that it was more than a small town bar in a super small town. I’ll have to take the family up there for lunch soon.

Actually, no I haven’t. Between work, yardwork, rain, and the Crazy Horse Volksmarch Hike, I haven’t had a chance. Haven’t been fishing either. My next day off is a trip to go haul a piano back here from central SD. Maybe tomorrow morning if I don’t get out of work too late tonight. I feel like Al did in his article, “The Non-Fisherman”.
