Fishing Phrases

Right now I am watching the TV Show “North To Alaska”, with Larry Csonka, and I have heard many fishing words, like “Big Fish!”
I am not going to repeat every word they said. I want to hear from you what your favorite exclamations are?
Doug

Used to go with a guide whose standard reply to …

How’s fishin…was

“About average”.

Great show to watch. As far as a favorite saying goes ill go with “nice fish”

“We don’t measure brook trout in inches, we measure 'em in pounds”
(as I explained to some visitors at the registration desk on our homewaters).

Aw jeeze, nice home page. Way to go fcch!

My wife noticed that most of the time when a large fish was caught and presented to the camera the anglers usually talked long and hard about its size and weight. On the other hand when a very small fish was brought to net, all they could come up with was “purty little fish!”

grumps

I seem way to partial to “long distance release”. I’ve about wore that phrase out.

I met Csonka at the Reno airport several years ago, just a year or so after he took over the TV show from Buktus. I was standing in a line of 2 people when he walked up and dumped a couple of duffel bags. I turned around looked at him and knew I should know who he was, but it didn’t come immediately. I turned back around and ask “Are you Dick Buktus?”

He replied “Diplomacy isn’t your long suite is it?” He turned out to be a pretty nice guy, I remembered that he had his last training camp in my home town just south of Memphis. Playing for the Memphis Grizzlies, USFL.

I fish with a guy that if you ask him how the fishing is, his standard answer is “Just got here”. Doesn’t matter if he has been fishing all day long you will get the same reply; “Just got here”.

This just in from one of Christopher’s witty responses to another post about his catching his beloved silvers…

The longest 3-5 seconds one can experience with 'yur clothes on !!

As drifting by another fisherperson of the opposite gender…

“Getting any?”

Sorry but Chris opened the door:p.

I didn’t read all the posts so if this is a repeat I apologize, my favorite saying is…
“Fish On”

Oh, $%&@!#!!!

Two that I’ve heard a guide use: “window shopper” when you get a refusal and “couldn’t wrap his arms around it” when they’re too small to take the fly down.
Glenn

reminds me of last year—a tarpon that tilts up and studies the fly but refuses—“A LEANER”

I’ve only used it twice but I love it. “MY NET’S NOT BIG ENOUGH!!!” But mostly what Gutbomb said.

John has yelled this at least twice when we were fish.

LEN!!! LEN!!!

I NEED THE NET LEN!

in mid Lennnnn it changes… to…F^^K!

It got off.

Since the last time John has bought a bigger net.

One I use…“Lifter”…small enough to lift out of the water with the rod…advantage …they often flip themselves off…but I don’t like catching “lifters”

“Were in the ZONE!” This was uttered whenever we found a good spot and of course that spot was forever imbedded in my memory.
