I am going to be visiting my son who now lives in Gillette Wyo. end of July. Wondering what fishing opportunities are around there for a fly fisherman. lake or stream
“Sharpest Town in The West” because of it’s name. All I can remember in my visit is flat land antelope, rodeo and strip coal mines. Sorry BILL
Bighorn mountains to the west, 1-2 hours drive. Go to buffalo, wy. There is a fly shop there but I do not remember the name. Small streams and high alpine lakes with eager trout.
The name of the “fly shop” in Buffalo is the “Sports Lure”. Although a full service sporting goods store it has an excellent fly shop. It is one of the best sporting goods stores I’ve seen anywhere. Guns, kayaks, camping equiptment, bicycles and clothing…you name it, they got it.
Clear Creek runs right through downtown Buffalo. You can see trout in the creek looking from the bridge on Main street. I have fished the creek in the city park and caught fish.
Jerry Spence’s (the lawyer) brother runs a small lunch counter on main street. Seating is limited and be prepared to wait cuz he only cooks one meal at a time…you wont leave hungry, portions are huge and good.
