To use for bluegill, make the following changes:
-
change hook to a Mustad 94831
-
weight with 15 turns of 0.015 lead wire
-
Use olive ice-dub for the body
Good luck catching those big bluegills.

WWFF;
I watched fishbum tie this fly at the Mason, MI Expo.
I’ve tied several using Ice Chenille for the body and picked up some nice Rainbows down in TN on the Duck River.
One thing Jerry didn’t mention. He ties the aftershaft in at the eye, wraps it around the thread and wraps it back to the hackle. He then works a couple of turns of thread through the aftershaft back to the eye and ties off. As he explained to me this strengthens the aftershaft and makes a quite durable head.
I beleive this is his goto fly for Blue Gills, Trout, Steelhead, etc.
WWFF,
That Jack fellow be lying to you about that there Sparrow Nymph working on the trout here is Tn. It shore don’t work here so don’t you go and waste your time tying it, hear!
