Is it just me or does anyone else see this site turning into a Facebook with the ‘polls’ and ‘friends’ etc.
I don’t feel that way. I don’t have or seek any “friends” Those who are, are known, those who aren’t, are welcome to become so. Polls are a good way to share the shack nasties, and can be really telling.
The Poles and Friends options have been avalable for a while and are not used much. I can’t see FAOL becoming facebook, or anything resembeling facebook.

I don’t come here to “make friends”. That may be obvious. I come here to read and find out about fly fishing.
I have only met one person from this site and that was by complete accident.
I don’t use this site as a “Facebook” and never will.

By polls, I mean the threads that are started asking “this or that” type questions. Isn’t that a poll?
Nope, that is someone looking for info. A poll just gives statistics. I can’t tell you how much I have learned, and am still learning from this site. Still haven’t met any of you face to face

Strictly speaking it appears that if you ask more than one person the same question you are conducting a poll. This makes children the most active pollster in the world. So if I ask you want you would use in a situation and you answer wooly bugger and one of the other guys said he would use a Mickey Finn, am I conducting a poll or find a bait that I have or like to use that might work?

Sooooo, is the latest “whip finishers” thread not a poll?
What type do you use? Why do you like it? Pros/cons?
With many answers of just “Matarelli” or “by hand” seems like it fits the definition of poll.
Facebook to me is a way to keep up with family and friends, I don’t do polls on it. I don’t ask questions on it I sometimes play games on it. I see no resemblance between FAOL and facebook except that both are social boards one specific to fly fishing one very broad.
I guess my way of talking about this would be, If this board isn’t for this type of Poll. IE asking questions about fly fishing etc. what is it for?

By extension any time we ask for tips suggestions, opinions, reviews, or advice, we should just label it as ‘more of that Facebook-ey nonsense’?
A Poll thread would be like this:
Do you like this thread:
1)Yes
2)No
And there would be a place to check a mark next to 1 or 2 above and then you could look to see how many people voted for either.
