Flyfished on Friday afternoon. Badgered the Koi again. They were being largely uncooperative, but I caught 7.
Got out yesterday, tried for Freshwater Drum on flies. Caught 2. Tried for Grass Carp, had one on that jumped out of the water, then dove and shook free.
Saw geese, ducks, birds, frog, turtles, snakes, and a giant water beetle.
Looks like a lot of fun.

Nice Koi, like the Drum but not the snake.

Nice post and catches there Dave.
Man, those Koi are cool! Especially the creamy whitish one.
I saw a couple of YouTube videos about preparing and eating Freshwater Drum this winter. I guess they’re good if you know how to clean them right AND you don’t take ones over a certain size. I think I’ll pass as long as there are sunfish and walleye available.

p.s. Dave, you ever fish for “Flier” fish? I am not sure if they had those in Iowa or not and not sure if you have seen them in Mo. I am kind of intrigued by the idea and hope to find time to go for some this Summer.
Thanks! No Flier in Iowa. I’ve fished a couple spots in Missouri where they are supposed to be, but haven’t found them yet. They are absolutely on the “try for” list for this year…maybe even later this month!
Good luck in your search, share your successes here if you can!
