I have been shopping around for a bit looking at waders and have a quick question. Wally World has waders for $60 and other sporting stores has them for anywhere up to $300 or so. Is there any real reason why the $60 ones wouldnt keep the water out as good as the $300 ones? Is it like alot of other sporting goods where you pay for the brand? Any help and suggestions on what would be some good beginner waders would be great!
Waders costing $60 will keep you dry and (assuming they’re neoprene) probably hot in summer as well. But they will not last as long (in fishing seasons)nor be as comfortable as $300 breathables. Rememeber you always get what you pay for so it’s really your choice.
really depends on how much you will use them. If you only need then 2-3 times a year you might stay with the inexpensive ones. Not sure where you plan on fishing but out west I would insist on felt soles. Allyn
I don’t have a problem with waders in the $100 range. Must be breathable! I used the GII waders, from you know where, for three years without any difficulties until my dog chewed them up. I only fish between 50-80 times a year though. Below the $100 range I get concerned with poor quality. The lowewr priced waders I use seem to be fine. I do need to pay close attention to snags and such
Breathable or neoprene?
A $60 pair of neoprenes are probably fine, but, like previously posted. HOT in the summer. If you buy breathables, you want and actual membrane (goretex or similar) Some cheaper breathables are actually sprayed on the fabric and not necessarily in a consistant fasion. A little research goes a long way.
