First Fish On The Fly

Well I went out yesterday in the wind and rain trying to catch something on my flyrod. I was using a little fly (I don’t know what it’s called, I got it form the $ .89 bucket at Sportsman’s Warehouse) and caught a little bass as soon as the fly hit the water. I worked around the pond and caught another on a streamer (?). Neither were of any size but they were fish. Later I hit the golf course pond and caught another on the streamer. My casts ain’t pretty but they were good enough for a few bass on a cold, rainy day.

Congrats, FML!
Nice bass, and catching them on your fly gear, (as you mentioned, your “FIRST”?), make them that much more so!
The “good”, or the “bad” thing about this, now of course is that you’re “hooked”, (pun intended) and there’s NO turning back to the light…
Once you cross over to the dark side of fly fishing, that’s it… you’re done for.
“It was cold, raining and windy”… yet, you still went out fishing AND CAUGHT FISH! Now, who else, BUT a fly fisherman, would do such and thing and enjoy it!?!

Looks like you are hooked. The fly looks like a wooly worm. If you send me your address via PM I’ll send you bunch of flies to help you get started.

Tim

That is great catching fish on your first out, welcome to the wild wild world of the “Quiet Sport”.

Now get back out there!

Congrats on your first fish on fly!

Looks as if you were using a Wooly Bugger. The second fly resembles a Lefty’s Deceiver.

FishinsMyLife317,
Congratulations on your first fish on a fly!!! Those are nice Bass you caught!
The first fly is the ancient Wooley Worm. If you try tying flies, the Wooley Worm is the easiest fly to tie and it is a great fish catcher also.
About your casting! remember, 10 ‘o’ clock- 2 ‘o’ clock!
And for crying out loud! Pinch your barbs down!
Doug

Good job, Junior, and welcome to the club! It’s a rush to catch those fish on a fly rod.

Like Panman, if you PM your addy to me, I’ll add to the pile of flies that just might catch something, and save you a couple of bucks. It’s too cold here to go fishin.

Joe

OK, now you’re hooked na na, na na na. Welcome to the fraternity. Don’t fight it. ENJOY it!!

That first fly is definately a woolly worm.

The second, Looks like a small deciever.

Congrats on your first fish, and nice ones at that!

Congratulations on the first catch. Now you should retire that fly to a place on honor . I keep my memorable flies on a hat that I retired a while back. First fish , first bass, first Carp, first cutt, coho, spring, etc The karma gathered on that old hat is getting better with every fly added. Just a suggestion.

What a great way to start your fly fishing career. I stayed snug and dry at home reading about the Catskill Rivers. Now, I wish that I’d gone out and braved the elements. It was pretty miserable in the upstate too. 8T

Oh Yes your first fish on a fly rod like the rest said your hooked now so enjoy it. Next thing you know you will start tying your own flies then your really in trouble.

It happened to me and I have no regrets, the wife on the other hand is getting tired of all the feather and hair clippings on the carpet LOL. She is a saint.

I can tell you are in the South. YOu have dormant bermuda under that crappie

Wooley buggers will become your new friend!
