As promised. Here is a picture of the first fish I caught on one of the Bamboo fly rods I got (and refinished) with the help of FAOL and its members. Sure, I would have loved for it to be fall colored brookie, or maybe a big old brown…but alas you get what you get. A firsts a first right? Either way it still meant a lot; it’s darn nice to have a goal and see it realized. Again, a big thanks to everyone who helped make this one a reality (Photojoe especially).
Nice bass and congratulations. You are 100% hooked on the boo now. ![]()
Horray!! Yep, it’s all over but the shouting now!!
GBurg, Go for the Pink Rod! Seriously good job. When are you starting on the second, third etc.
Well done! You should keep the fly with the photo.

way to go.love the smell of the varnish when you open up the rod case.try it out on the Conewago outside of Gettysburg.
Best,
Steve
Right on, man! I am THRILLED to see an old 'boo rod get put to good use! And it’s great to see that whole ordeal of “The Great 'Boo Buy” was worth it! If you ever make it out this way, let me know and we’ll get you a cutthroat or two on that rod of yours.
Regards,
Joe Martin
Thanks Guys!
Clyde, I’ve already started number three. I actually did some of the work in tandem (stripping, base coats of varnish, etc.). Number three is going to be another banty from one of the no-names I tested with lighter lines. The rod above throws a 2wt fairly well. My 3wt line (I recently found out) is no good in the winter (too much memory). I’m going to take it somewhere to test some 3wt silk, and the next rod should turn out as a 4wt. My first, was the Monty Rapidan which was more of a practice rod than anything else (to hone my refurb skills).
Steve- That bass was actually caught at the Connewago. I didn’t even know they were in there! The Connewago is one of my favorite streams. Ten minutes from work?perfect for lunch breaks or afternoon “disappearances”.
Joe- I will definitely look you up out there someday. Never caught a cut-throat, but its definitely on my list! Have you heard from any of the other participants?
