First bluegill trip of the year

Well my son and I finally got to go out for a little fishing trip. It hasn’t been because the weather hasn’t been nice. I just haven’t had the time. We took a few hours off and went to the Fla. State Large Mouth Bass Hatchery.
The hatchery is in the Richloam wildlife management area and is actually now under construction as they are rebuilding the hatchery. We fished one of the small outlaying ponds that are set up for the public to fish.
My son caught a gill every cast for the first 3 casts. It’s success like that that keeps kids coming back, even though he’s 17 now. I think he’s decided that warm water fishing isn’t so bad after all.

Sounds great. I am envious as the water is solid again here.

Sounds like a great trip, PC. What parts of Richloam are shut down?

Maybe Shutdown is misspoken. The area where they are working is like any other construction site. They really don’t care much for onlookers. I guess construction is not considered a spectator sport.
As of right now the only pond that’s open for the public to fish is first one on the right as you are on the way in.
