Went out to do a little fishing on some of the trout streams in the area yesterday. Passed one of the county parks with a river running through, and decided to stop. It was hot, and the action was slow all day when about mid-day something hit the fly. Put up a nice fight, and when I landed it, I found about an 8 inch smallmouth. Nothing to brag about, but I got a feel for the fighting ability of smallies. Can’t wait to get back out there again.

Congrats, neighbor. Welcome to the dark side. We bass fishemen have a name for those 13" trout.
Bait.
(Whew, that ought to stir them up ;))
Go get 'em… g
it wont stir em up…its not on the fly anglers online section 8)
Congrats!! I am still a fly bass virgin, although I have not been out much. What did you get it on?
Congratulations CJ. Just wait until you catch one that runs a little bigger. With a little more muscle and bulk behind it, you will have a memorable experience. 8T
yes, wht was your fly? good on ya.
CJ,
Good for you! I am a firm believer that almost ANY fish, caught on the right tackle, is admirable, smallies are truly special! Thanks for sharing.

I was using a marabou variation on a clouser, chartreuse over white, size 12. I’ve had good luck with it on other fish as well.
