Those look darn good, but I would suggest you use a longer hook to allow for a better hook set.

You are absolutely correct. I had #4 & #6 kinkshank hooks. I should have used the larger ones on the smaller bodies and purchased some #2s for
the larger ones but I got anxious to finish (and lazy). We’ll see what happens. I’m calling this a practice run. I plan on doing a better job on the finish and airbrushing some as soon as I can get some paint supplies.

When I started making poppers I couldn’t find kinkshank hooks I learned a layer or two of thread on the hook would secure it to the body along with the cement I was going to use either way.

Not all fish were caught on poppers. Popper fishing was slow and I didn’t want to miss out on too much of the action.
If you look back to the last pic in this thread of the popper you will see the large yellow one about the middle of the group.
That’s the one in the above pic.
LOVE fishing those smalllies at this time of year in Ontario. Some days…all topwater…others…only subsurafce. Either way, what a HOOT! Sometimes a lake change requires a presentation change too.
