Got out and had a good time. A friend and I fished Lake Manatee, a 2,500-acre lake east of Bradenton, Fla. The bite was off slightly, but no big deal.

I caught lots of bluegill. Plus, I caught a 3-pound largemouth on my 1-weight. It took a No. 12 nymph. Also caught a nice shellcracker and a fair speckled perch (crappie).

Wind was a problem and the bite was slow, but it was fun – as always.

That bass went almost 3 pounds. Not bad on a 1-weight!
