is there a list of members of FAOL on here somewhere? does anyone know of a way to find people in your area? i live in northern west virginia and just started fly fishing last year. be nice having someone that can help me get to be better at this.
Try the Orvis shop at the Wisp Resort in McHenry,Md. It won’t reopen until Spring however.
Plenty of trout streams in the area. Don’t know of any clubs, sorry.
RKScott try changing your heading to include North WV. Someone who lives in your area might read it who wouldnt read it otherwise. If somthing started with Needing help in Idaho I would read it beceause I live here. Most people don’t have time to read all the posts, as nice as that would be.

What part of Northern WV exactly? I’m near Clarksburg. I fish trout streams in the Monongahela National Forest mostly. Also, I have a camp near Elkins that I spend nearly every weekend at from mid March or so till late October… If you’re going to be in the area, give me a shout, I’d be glad to show you a few streams.

I live in MD and fish some water in WV. What part of WV are you at?
i’m in wetzel county about an hour south of wheeling.
I’m in Loudoun County, VA, but work over in Charles Town WV - near Harper’s Ferry.
Try WVAngler.com…All your answers are there about WV
Gandy Dancer,
Can I assume that your name is for a certain stream in Randolph County? Great place! I fish there often.
Two Weight, aka Caddisfly
Caddis , In some respects you are correct ,I have fished it since around 1959 or so, in another, a “Gandy Dancer” was a name given to section gang laborer on the railroad. I am a native Randolph county guy, who now lives in Preston County.

My Aunt lives in New Martinsville.
rk,
I live in Canton, Ohio, but love to visit Cabela’s in Wheeling. Next time I head down I’ll post here before & maybe we can get a bunch of us together for a Cabela’s get together like we have in Dundee, Michigan at the Cabela’s there.

Hello, I tried to fly fish in WV when I visited there about 4 years ago, I was based at Morgantown, and was told by the tourist office that the better fishing was in Maryland, I fished the Snake River there and caught a few, then a few days later visited a fishing/shooting day at Stonewall Jackson National Park where I got some great advice on local waters, had some great sport and must thank the locals in Morgantown for their hospitality, fantastic folk.
I am out of Moundsville do most of my fishing up in Wheeling.
Here’s your answer…
- Click on “community”, then “members list”
- Just under the page numbers, click on “search members”, then “advanced search”
- Go to “location”…type in location, scroll down & hit “search now”.
example: “west virginia” shows only you, but “wv” shows 5 other FAOLers in West Virginia. It’s all what one puts in their profile.
Hope this helps.
Mike
OMG! I just noticed this is an old post from 2007!
Oh well, maybe someone can use the information I posted.
Mike
It had me fooled too. I’d be glad to meet with any interested parties at Cabelas in Wheeling. It’s only about a 2 hour drive from where I lived in central, PA. I’d love to learn some place to fish in West Virginia. I fished the Smoke Hole years ago.

I live about 5 miles from two weight. Get ahold of myself or two weight and we would be glad to help you out.
Go to Harrisonburg, Va. Find Route 33 out of town west. Take it. As you come down North Mountain, you will come to Pendleton, W, Va. You will be entering from the north. Continue south thru town and start looking to your left. You’ll see a dam over the Potomac. There’ll be fishermen on it. Go down there and ask them.
