Finally got my "New" boo on the water!

Got out for a few hours before the storms hit yesterday afternoon. Took the Montague 9’ Western Special to the lake. Love the rod and the Cortland 444 Sylk DT-6-f line. May go to a WF-7-F but I was accurately throwing 60+ foot casts in no time. Oh, and roll casts, sweeet!

Caught my first fish too. Real monster of the lake. Bend in the boo, line tight as a banjo string and all for a 7inch blue gill. Sorry, no pictures.

I can hardly wait to rebuild this rod with new grips, guides, nickle silver ferrules and that beautiful thread dleo sent to me. Great off season project.

Wow, it was fun!

Nighthawk - I had a beautiful condition old Monty some 30 years ago, given to me as a gift from an old time friend and flyfisher. I was fishing with a friend about 15 years ago and I was using the Monty. He asked if we could trade rods for awhile so he could see how the bamboo would feel as opposed to his Fenwick glass rod. Of course I obliged. He felll in love with it and on the spot wanted to buy it. Since he was a very old and dear friend, I said OK and he offered a very generous compensation and took the rod home. To this day that was the biggest mistake with fly equipment I ever made. I loved that rod and in a moment it was gone. He is now over two thousand miles away, we keep in touch but the rod is his and the memories are mine. DON"T EVER GET RID OF THE MONTY! See how much greif and frustration I have saved you. Enjoy. …so my buddy says he would like to go with me but doesn’t have a rod. I lend him my Monty. He breaks the tip. Then he breaks the second tip. I haven’t seen him in years.

Man, you guys are scaring me with your monty storries…
Mine is never leaving my hand!

They can have my Monty when they pry it from my cold dead fingers! Now, in J.C.'s case, I would really have been in a spot. My Monty only has one tip.

JC, Which Monty is it that you like?
