Fill The Box Challenge

Hi, my name is Chad Borenz and I am a member of the KIAP-TU WISH Trout Unlimited group in northwestern Wisconsin.

I am trying to help my TU chapter out by filling up a large 150 compartment wooden fly box with a plexiglas lid that I created ? kind of like the ones you see at the fly shop ? and then raffle/auctioning it off. It?s roughly 32?x18?. All proceeds are going to go to stream rehabilitation in the area.

I am hoping that there are enough people that have extra flies sitting around or would like to tie for this worthy cause. I am looking for primarily trout flies (the classics in all sizes and newer creations as well), but really if you want to get rid of some and they are for bass or saltwater, I won?t say no. Hopefully I can collect some larger quantities (2 dozen) of the same size and style, each compartment is about 2?x2? and can hold a lot of flies, some compartments are 2?x 3? so yes streamers will fit.

This is a chance to make a small contribution that will turn into a larger amount of money and be used for much needed stream work. Any help will be appreciated. Please spread the word to your tying friends and send me an email (chadborenz@gmail.com) or pm me for my address. Thanks for the support.

So, Chad, What is your deadline, or timeline, for this endeavor? I’m interested, and willing to tie up some stuff for ya, but my time is kinda full usually. So how much time we talkin here, I’m sure it’s a factor for many other fellas who might be interested.
Thanks…ModocDan

Sorry for not putting it in the original request. I need it sometime before the end of November. It will be auctioned off during our December banquet. I am getting an early start on it while everyone is tying this winter. Thanks for the interest.

Badger:

Count me in for some of my wet flies. Provide me and address, I like the idea and will glad to help your clubs end of the year auction.

Badger,

This post is not to challenge the validity of your motives or the value of what the end result will be. It is to inform you that, as far as I recall, in the past requests like yours have been considered ‘solicitations’ that are not permitted on the site. Keep in mind that, and again this is as far as I recall, that rule has nothing to do with the veracity or the worthiness of the effort. Good luck though.

Hmmmmmmmm, interesting, Deezel!?!
Someone, then, needs to explain to me the definition of “solicitation”!?
Because, other than this post NOT involving a cash transaction, what’s the difference, between THIS and what HRH Betty has started with the hats, (to SOLICIT funds for FAOL)? and, the other “Friends of FAOL” that also,is to SOLICIT funds for FAOL, that’s been posted on this board?
I agree with ALL THREE of these posts, listed, don’t get me wrong! I gave to Friends of FAOL and purchased a hat. If I could still tie, like I used to, I’d be sending in flies for THIS good cause as well.
Just asking!?

pm me youre adress and ill try to put something together. btw, if you manage to fill the whole box, how much money do you think youre group could get for it?

flybinder,

Again, I am not criticizing the poster nor the effort. I can only tell you that, in the past, some requests for similar efforts and for other ‘good works’ have been deleted and the poster got a slap on the wrist or banned.

Deezel

I KNOW you weren’t, criticizing AT ALL, Deezel, that wasn’t the point of my post!! I was merely asking “what the difference was”, between the three is all, in the event, THIS post was pulled, but the others were allowed to continue!? Which they SHOULD, as well as this one!!
I’ve never seen, where you’ve criticized anyone, on FAOL Deez, so I knew you weren’t on this one, either. I was merely curious!

this thread should have been approved by JC or LF BEFORE it was posteed. it should have been put in the “event” section and not “fly tying”

Thanks.
I can’t give you the reason(s), or define the use of the word ‘solicitations’. It’s up to the Administrator(s)/Moderator(s). Best thing to do if you’re thinking about posting an effort like this is what Normond wrote: ‘get approval by the site administrator(s) first’.

Deezel

Sorry for causing such a stir in the community. I guess I should have gone through the proper channels before posting this. If the moderators see fit they should remove this post, but please don’t ban me.

We are hoping to raffle this off and make anywhere from $300-$600 on this which all proceeds will be going to stream improvement.

I wish you luck. I ran the New Mexico Trout conclave raffle for two years, it was a lot work but after it was over, definitely worth it.

With 150 slots and hoping to fill those with a dozen or so flies, I would hope you get more than $600.

I’m not sure how you plan on raising money for this, but for an item of that nature, a suggestion to increase money - do a square board raffle - have 100 squares and sell them for $20 a piece at the least. With that many flies hopefully, you shouldn’t have any problems getting $2000 for it, especially with the case being offered.

Another suggestion, offer tax deduction forms for those who donate. I know it’s not a huge deduction for some, but it’s just something to help.

Again, good luck!

Chad send me a PM with address and I’ll be good for a dozen or more. I do the same for our club auction by getting flies from our speakers. Stick in there, some will always question a worthwhile request. BILL

I’ll be happy to participate. PM me your address. Sounds like a worthy cause. This is another spin off of “what can we do to support and grow the sport”?
