Fiberglass Rod Blank Spigot Ferrules

I’ve built one fiberglass rod before and on that rod I was able to sand down the spigot just a little bit to make it fit. This rod is a fiberglass 5wt and the spigot ferrule doesn’t fit all the way or even close to where it should. I was wondering if I could trim it down and not have it be a problem, does anyone know how much of the ferrule can be removed without it being a problem. If it was just a small difference I’d sand it down but there a little over an inch difference. The spigot itself is about 2.5’’ If I cut it down that will leave it at 1.5’’ is that enough for a 5 wt to not break?

There is ment to be gap between the two section for future wear. Leave it as it is.

And that is the case with all spigots, not just fiberglass.

Good to know, I’m new to fiberglass and spigot ferrules. I was just concerned with how much was exposed and worried it might break. Thank you for the replies.

I’m allowed to laugh, as I went through this on my first rod with spigots!

My I add one thing , in case you don’t know. You have to wrap both the male and female side.
