Would you happen to have the materials needed to tie the F-C Crackleback Dry Wooly? If I may be so bold as to ask, can you list them for me? Are there tying instructions anywhere?

The classic Crackleback is tied on a size 12 Dai-Riki 300 hook (1XL, down eye, dry fly). Olive 6/0 or 8/0 thread.

  1. Wrap on thread and wrap to hook bend.
  2. Tie on a sparse furnace hackle, then two strands peacock herl.
  3. Typical body is either fine dry fly dubbing or turkey rounds (several, bound in by their tips) in PMD yellow, also bound in at bend.
  4. Bring thread forward to one hook eye width behind eye.
  5. Wrap turkey rounds forward or dub forward to just behind hook eye.
  6. Bring peacock herl over top and bind in at eye.
  7. Palmer furnace hackle forward in four or five turns and bind at eye.
  8. Tie off, trim, and whip finish.

I tie the crackleback in all sizes from 8 through 20, with and without beads, in body colors brown, tan, olive, chartreuse, orange, and PMD yellow. So far, my best fish on the fly were a five pound rainbow on a #16 with no bead and a 31" grass carp on a #14 with bead. Great, versatile fly.
