Favorite John Gierach book

I just started “Standing In A River Waving a Stick” and have been really enjoying it. What are some of his other works I should put on the list?
Thanks -

All of his writings are worth the time to read. We can find something in all of his books that strike that " Oh yeah, been there/done that place."

Trout Bum was one of his best. I think it was his first also.

Not a huge fan of that style of writing, but I was quite impressed with Good Flies, which for some reason never seems to get the credit due, in my opinion.

If you’re interested in bamboo rods Fishing Bamboo
is a must read.

I’ve read and enjoyed all of them. I once heard someone say he didn’t like them because every chapter in every book was he same. He thought each one was some variation of “A.K. and I went fishing…”

I guess I never found that to be the case. I have read each book at least twice. I like them a lot.

To each their own!..

Everyone has their own ideas of things that they enjoy, and things that they do not enjoy…

Fly Fishing the High Country was actually his first book, but I agree, Trout Bum is a classic. Sex, Death & Flyfishing is another one I really like.

Another Lousy Day In Paradise. I like it mostly for the content. I think I want to move back to Labrador!!

Pick one! They are all pretty good! Just finished Fishing Bamboo recently…

Received this as Christmas gift:

I own and have read all of them. I still reread favorite chapters from my Gierach collection. For some reason, “The View from Rat Lake” has always grabbed me. “Good Flies” is also a good read although more of an instructional rather than entertaining read. If you like “Standing In A River Waving a Stick”, I’d suggest reading them all.

I like them, but find them pretty redundant, but I still like them. If I had to pick my favorite, it would be from the title only, because I like the statement, “Standing in a river, waving a stick.”

I have enjoyed every one that I have read. Our local library has a number of his books, so that is where I got started several years back. There are several that I haven’t read yet. Perhaps this winter as a distraction. One of my favorite chapters is “Camp Coffee” in Trout Bum. There is just something about the whole ritual that he describes that I just enjoy reading.

Own and enjoyed them all. My favorite would be “Even Brook Trout get the Blues”.

+1

I prefer the earlier books to the latter because the earlier books were “A.K. and I go fishing…”

A.K. seems to have disappeared from the later books. In one, Gierach even admits he forgot A.K.'s phone number.

Love them… Trout Bum & Fishing Bamboo some of my fovorites

has anyone written a better ghost story than “The Fly Rod” in Trout Bum?

I’m going to be contrarian and say Signs of Life.

I’m lying, but with the trouble I had tracking that sucker down and ILLing it, I need to represent.

Trout Bum hooked me!
