Hi Guys and Gals. I am looking for an effective crawfish pattern. Do you have anything you recommend for river fishing?

Not specifically a crayfish pattern, but I’ve used a Foxee Clouser and had real good luck; tie it with red fox or coyote tail.

For warmwater rivers, Missouriflies.com recommends his Roughdub Craw pattern…like the brown ones in this picture:

Here is a pattern I’ve had really good luck with.The tungsten bead helps it fall quickly and the rubber leg material gives plenty of movement.

Here’s one I’ve been messing about with for the last season. It uses Virtual Nymph’s Nymph Skin for the body and back.

I have had great luck with smallies and largemouth with a pine squirrel version tied on a jig hook

I will try some of the patterns. I like that one with the virtual nymph skin.

Part of the reason was I was floating the river in September and catching a few fish. When a couple of drift boats came down the river with guides. They were hammering the heck of the fish in spots I have never caught a fish. I asked the one guide what they were using and he said crawdads and worms. They were bait fishing.:confused: Why in the heck you would hire a guide to bait fish is beyond me. Darn, If that is the case I need to come up with some crawdad patterns to try.

A Red Setter makes a good koura (crayfish) pattern. A step by step is found as a FOTW from 1997. I can’t seem to paste a link to it, sorry.

Start with a Slumpbuster, change the cone to lead dumbbell eyes, and add some rubber legs. Crawdad orange and olive pine squirrel seems to do best for me.

Here is my Swiss Straw Crawfish in OD, and the other in Brown. They work great in Tail Races.

Gigmaster, if you should find yourself with the time and inclination, that pattern has Fly of the Week written all over it.

I gave her some nymphs here awhile ago that would do the trick better than a Slumpbuster! Black peacock ice dub = bluegill crack…
