I’d like to hear from anyone who is planning on joining me on Wednesday from 7pm to 9pm to tie flies at the Independence, MO Bass Pro.
Seating in the fly shop is a little limited, so if there is going to be a large group, then I need to know so they can make arrangements to seat us all.
There is no cost, just bring your tying gear to the fly shop and we’ll have some fun.
I would love to come tonight, but the drive is a little long.
If you are the only one that shows up and you start tying you will find someone to stop by and talk, perhaps help a kid tie his first fly. (bring some stuff for buggers) I’m sure other tiers will stop and talk if only for a min and perhaps show up next time.
Great things start because someone does something.
It was a great start. In all there were 7 people there by the end of the night. Not everyone tied, but there were three kids who did. What a great time.
Should be fun. I’m going to be doing a lot more fishing this year…I just didn’t get out enough last year, so between Bennet, JAR, and Lonejack Lake…I should be good.
Those are the three places I am going to focus on this year too. I talked with a guy at JAR on Saturday. He said he had caught some nice Bluegill at bluestem last year. I haven’t fished that one much yet but I think I will spend some time there this year.
I know where the bluegills hang out this time of the year at LJL, and I’ve got just the fly, a black bugger with an orange tail. Tie some up with just a little bit of weight, let them sink pretty deep, and then retrieve slowly. There are some pigs in there.
I’m also going to be hitting some of the lakes at JAR using the same tactics, give me a call when you head out, if you’re up for some company, and I’ll see if I can join you.
I’ve caught some monster redears on Bodark, right along the boat ramp using a popper. It’s been a few years since I’ve fished that lake, but man was it good when I did. That’s actually the very first place I ever fly fished.
If the wind dies down this afternoon I think I’ll head out to LJL, see if I can beat the rain and catch a few gills
That’s where I fished the majority of the time last year. I would say it is still good. That is where my Redears cam from. They don’t have the boats on Bodarc any longer. They moved them to Gopher. I think there had been some vandalism of the fish feeders on Bodarc.
Are you goining to use your float tube, your 'yak, or fish from the bank today?
I’m going to fish from the bank. The area where I’ve found them in the past is tough to fish from the tube. I’ve tried it a few times, but just can’t get in there where I need to be. It’s just easier to do from shore…at least for this time of the year.
I got myself a new reel and rod. I bought the reel, broke my orvis, and they sent me a new one 8’6" 4wt. I like it alright, but I miss that extra 6 inches.
