Fall Swift Water Smallies w/ Photos

Took me a bit to get the picture coding right but here they are!

After 30 minutes of hunting in a local flow, I happened across some quick flowing water and cast out my favorite top-water, swinging it through the current and WHAM…jump, fish missed.

Cast again, WHAM, flip…no hook-up…same exact spot…third cast…WHAM, tug GOTCHA.

Caught about 8 in the is same size range and like all good liars, I tell 'ya the biggest one got away…I swera, it looked like a football but spit the fly about 3 feet from me…I was dragging all these fish upstream against the current and they were not happy.

All caught on top-water…same fly…they were hitting like freight trains.

Sounds like great fun. Bet you’re going back soon !!

Nice fish looks like a gurgle pop?

Thanks for posting the great pictures! Those are solid, healthy-looking fish!

Very nice catches!

They are very long, and dark fish.

Are they a hybrid?
The end of there mouths seem to go past there eye, like a largemouth bass.

must of been a blast bringing them in, did they jump?

Take care,
chris

Not sure on the lineage of these Smallies…I would bet they are not hybrids as Small Mouth are native to Ohio.

Yup, like a Gurgle…Craft Foam, Kip Tail and Rubber Legs…probably caught 200 or more Smalls on this less than 1 mile stretch this year.

I’ll be back for sure…todays gauge reading was not good…this is a flood control flow so it “cycles”, for today…water down, almost no flow…tomorrow? Who knows.

The SM’s are always there but the action picks up at certain times…according to the flow gauge.
