Another fly that has worked well for me.
YUM-YUM!!
Very fishy leeches.
I really like the stuff, it’s my go too bass fly for exploring new territory.
Just for fun I add a couple pieces for red crystal flash in the tail section.

I’ve been using them for several years and they are very effective. I also really like black mohair yarn leeches tied on size 10 hooks with 6 wraps of lead wire or a bead head. This my go-to pattern for big bluegill in the spring.

Where do you get that Eyelash Yarn?
Would you suggest size 6 for bluegills and sizes 2 and 4 for smallmouths?
Are the fly patterns just basic yarn and eyes like dumbell or bead heads?
I use size 8 to 12 for panfish, size 6 and 4 for smallmouths.
I use heavy hooks; still have some 3399’ s.
In slow water; I do not weigh my leech.
In medium water ; a couple wraps of lead, or a bead.
For fast water; dumbbell eyes in brass.
Don"t forget everything eats leeches; I have caught bass-panfish-pike-carp-walleye on these flies.
I get mine at the dollar store; different stores have different types, and lengths.
Have fun, shop around, make some, and fish them; they really do work!
Chris
PS. black is all you need, long and slinky is best!
Lastchance,
I haven’t heard from you since I sent the eyelash yarn up to you last month and I am just checking to make sure that the package arrived safe and sound. I included a wide variety of different yarns (32), to give you lots of different patterns to try. It would be great to see some of the patterns you ties with it.

James, I’m really sorry. I was thinking I sent you a message confirmation of receipt the day I received it. I even recall telling you I tied 8 flies with them the night I received it. I must be losing my mind. I would swear on a Bible that I notified you. Great stuff, and like I said I tied some flies for crappies and bluegill with it the same day it came in the mail. I’ll post a picture this week as long as I don’t forget. Wow, I would have bet a pay check that I replied to you. Good thing I didn’t, HA!
Lastchance,
No worries. I’m glad that the yard arrived safe and sound and that you’re enjoying it. I would be great if you posted some photos of the flies you tie with it and the fish you catch.

A couple years back, Dale S. and I visited Rick Z to fish some of his waters. Rick gave us a variety of flies to use, including some eyelash yarn flies. There was some tinsel in the eyelash yarn of one that I used. We fished a pond that was very very muddy from a recent rain. That eyelash yarn with the tinsel worked GREAT!
Late this last year I tied/tried the following fly on bass, and it worked pretty well. The foam underbody helped the fly suspend just beneath the surface on the retrieve, so it could be worked in shallows like a jerkbait. Its simple:
Hook: #2 2xl or 3xl streamer hook
Thread: users choice
Tail: Marabou
Underbody: 2mm sheet foam strip wrapped up hook shank, or float foam threaded onto hook.
Overbody: sparkle eyelash yarn (eyelash yarn with tinsel flash built in) palmered over foam underbody.
Hi James,
Here’s what I’ve tied so far. I have a lot of ideas, too. Sorry it’s not more clear.
