Eye of the Guide, "Lake Taneycomo - Branson, Missouri

Sunset on Lake Taneycomo

Lake Taneycomo can offer a variety of fly fishing scenarios - from fishing
#24 midges to rising rainbows to, in the same day, #4 heavily weighted sculpins
for hungry big browns. Taneycomo is a tailwater fishery below Table Rock
Dam in the White River chain of lakes in Southwest Missouri.

One of the lakes main food base is the freshwater shrimp, providing
anglers excellent nymphing as well as huge midge hatches that come off 365
days of the year. My favorite technique is swinging soft hackles to pods of
feeding rainbows and browns, most of which now are averaging 14 to 16 inches,
with the occasional 20-inch-plus trophy.

After moving to the Ozarks from the big city of Houston, Texas I found that
I fit in with the slower pace Branson offers. Fly fishing Lake Taneycomo fits
that mold, too. I view my service to my clients two-fold: To instruct and educate
plus provide a relaxed but successful fishing adventure. I can’t imagine a
greater pleasure for me than to share my experience to help others learn the
sport of fly fishing. ~ Brian Shaffer
