Experience with St.Croix Reign series rods?

First, I hope the big red, jolly guy was good to all you FAOL’ers. I know he outdid himself this year for me. Which brings me too…
Does anyone have any experience with the St.Croix Reign series fly rods. I received a 2 piece 9 foot, 9 weight under the tree this year and was wondering what people thought of these rods. I’m looking for the good, the bad and the ugly, including experience with St.Croix customer service.

Thanks folks,

Tight lines in the New Year

Brad

Are you going after whales?

I’m not 100% about the larger weights but the Reign series is a great one in that price range. Unfortunately, the series seems to be a bit short-lived but they are great. I had a 4wt and only sold it because I had 2 others and the reign brought more $$$ towards a reel purchase than the other two 4wts would have.

St Croix customer service is 2nd to none IMO. That combined with how much rod you get for your green is why most of my rods are St Croix. The one thing I can’t tell you is how they might attempt to replace a discontinued rod if that should be an issue. I’ve replaced a Premier (my fault) 8’ 4wt and a Premier spinning rod and both were a breeze. I paid shipping to and from and the replacements were free. This has been a while back now. I’ve never had one break on me as a factory defect but the two I broke were covered and replaced very easily.

Brad,
What in the world are you going after ?
I wish I were up there right now .
Or better yet, Nova Scotia.
Dont you think a 9# is a bit much for N.S brookies?
Every thing Ive heard abput St. Croix is good. Cheers.

I have no plans to head over to Nova Scotia after brookies. This is for Humber River Atlantic Salmon. I have a nice 6 weight for trout.

The Reign series replaced my beloved Imerial series. Pretty much the same graphite and quality, but they are made outside of the U.S. Some might not have a problem with that, but I have piece of mind seeing “Made in the U.S.A.” stamped on anything I buy. Other than that, great rod, says moderate action, but feels slow and that is great with me. St. Croix has a great reputation with thier customer service. I have broken two of mine and had no problems with getting replacements.

from my experience St. Croix customer service is FANTASTIC!!!
