Everyday items

I’m always looking at everyday items, that I can tie flies with. These are girls’ polyband hair ties, tied on a #10 nymph hook. What everyday material/s have you used to tie flies with & were successful in hooking fish with?

NICE…Perfect color. Great find.

When I used to subscribe to physical newspaper, it came wrapped in a transparent yellow plastic bag. That plastic made for a really good shellback on the scuds that I used to tie a lot of.

Thanks NJTroutbum. redietz, that’s a good idea.

TV’s and similar electronics are often wrapped in sheets of packing foam. This foam is thin and translucent. Works for wings and bodies. Use markers for color. Won’t get real dark, but the translucent look is great for some flies.

Those polybands look great.

A small burlap feed bag will go a long way on nymphs and streamers. A buddy of mine used to tie really neat looking segmented streamer bodies with plastic/wire bread ties.

One material I forgot about is the packaging for toners for business printers; like a silver/foil bag. It would probably look like a bubble of air on an emerger.
