Epoxy Heads & Motor RPM's

What speed motor would you use for epoxy heads on flies? I’ve been able to easily find them but the choices in motor speeds varies from 6 to 40 RPM’s. I want to build a dryer for them so any recommendations on motor speed or other insights on this process please let me know.

I think the commercial units, like the one you can get here, run at 7 RPM

Joe,

For drying Epoxy on flies, th slower speeds work well.

I made my drier out of an olld rotisserie motor, it turns at about 4-6 RPM. Works great.

Good Luck!

Buddy

I have old rotisserie motors too dedicated to tying…but I got to thinking…sometimes a dangerous thing to do…if one doesn’t have an OLD motor what would be wrong with mounting a disc when you need it on a rotisserie currently being used…you wouldn’t have to even build a mounting bracket, etc…

Now, now let’s not get into the flavoring ,smoking, burning thing…

There is a funky little store in Milwaukee called American Science and surplus. I bought a 6rpm motor mounted it on a base of scrap wood, put a plywood disk with 12 Alligator clips epoxied to the front. I put wood screws at 12,9,6,and 3 O-clock that I attach rubberbands for drying rods. Total cost was less than $10.00. Not real pretty ,but it works great for what I do.

Hi Joe,

My Flex Coat fly/rod turner goes 6 RPM. Take care & …
